The Pagan God Ullr: Mythological Guardian of Hunting

Ullr (sometimes known as Uller or Ull) is another rather obscure but important deity in the Norse pantheon. Ullr’s name is rarely included in Norse mythology and sagas, but he had a significant role in hunting, winter and protection.

Ullr is the son of Skadi and, based on various legends, the son of Odin. He is described as a semi-god with divine abilities. Ullr has a definite role in the pantheon, pointing to the distinctive nature of Viking mythology.

Attributes and Symbols

Ullr is associated with numerous attributes:

  1. Hunting and fishing. Ullr is considered the Norse God of hunting and archery. He is shown with a bow and arrow, underscoring his ability in these domains.
  2. Winter and ice. The God of skiing is related to winter, ice, and snow due to his special powers, which help him move on challenging snowy surfaces.
  3. Duel and defense. The God of archery stood with other gods in their battles against the giants and stood guard for them during crunch time.

Cult and Honor

Although, in Viking mythology, the cult of Ullr was not as extensive as that of Odin or Thor, there were places and rituals dedicated to him. He was worshipped in areas associated with hunting and extreme winter climates.

Ullr’s Day was observed during the winter, as the power of this Viking God is primarily attributed to the cold and unfavorable seasons.

Size and Care Instructions for Wooden Statue

The size of the handmade wooden statue is as follows:

      height: 9" / 23 cm;

      width: 3.5" / 9.5 cm;

      depth: 1.57" / 4cm.

This handmade Ullr figurine is perfect for adding a touch of beauty to your home. The deity statue is great as a table decoration and a wall art piece. To hang the Nordic decor on, screw the mounts in the back that comes with it.

The Ullr statue is made of natural oak wood, a strong and elegant material. The carved statue is coated with oil and beeswax for protection. This coating has a non-toxic finish, feels great, and makes the wood carving look wonderful.
