Thor: The God of Lightning in Ancient Mythology

Thor is one of the most well-known Viking gods in Norse mythology. His name Thunor means "thunder" — the God of thunder and the God of storms.  Viking mythology is filled with several powerful gods and Thor is among the most revered ones.

Origin and Family

Thor is the offspring of Odin, the supreme god of the Vikings, and Jord (Earth). His wife is Sif, the goddess of fertility, with whom he has two children: Trud, a daughter, and Magni, a son.

Weapons and Symbols

Thor’s weapon is his hammer, Mjölnir, which can cleave through mountains and deliver some fairly powerful punches. Mjölnir has this cool magical feel to it, and after Thor hurls it, it comes flying back to him. Among the hammers, Thor uses the belt of strength and iron gauntlets, which certainly help him hold the hammer and even get a slight strength boost.

Role in Myths

Thor is often shown as a protector of gods and humans from all kinds of threats, including giants and trolls who usually try to destroy the established order in the world. The Pagan God travels the world, fighting enemies and using his strength and courage.

One of the most famous Thor myths is about his journey to the giant world to find his lost Mjölnir. Thor has to disguise himself as a woman to trick a giant who has stolen his hammer.

Size and Description of the Handmade Thor Statue

As a prominent figure in mythological art, Thor's representation in wood reflects the rich tradition of Scandinavian craftsmanship and spiritual symbolism. The carved statue, with its intricate details and powerful depiction, is a testament to the enduring legacy of paganism in celebrating and honoring ancient deities.

The size of the handmade wooden statue is as follows:

      height: 9" / 23 cm;

      width: 3.5" / 9.5 cm;

      depth: 1.57" / 4cm.

This deity statue is crafted from wood and directly fits into a home environment where one can either hang it on the wall or place it on a table. If you want to put an altar sculpture on the wall, just attach the mount to the back.

The spiritual decor is made of natural oak. To better protect it, we’ve covered the wooden statue with oil and beeswax. That covering is environmentally friendly, very enjoyable to touch, and provides a beautiful appearance to the tree. The wood carving of the Thor figurine is a great example of Nordic decor and shows respect for the beliefs of ancient Norse culture.
