Heimdall: The God of Viking Mythology

According to Norse mythology, Heimdall is the god of the Aesir, the guardian of the Bifröst and Asgard, and the son of Odin and nine mothers. Originating from nine sisters – Jötunsh daughters of Aegir. The Viking God did not lie and only spoke the truth. A man who is deaf but has gilded teeth is a ward of Asgard and lives in Himinbjorg, the Bifrost region. Other than protecting the Bifröst, Heimdall was expected to be a key figure during the end of the world (Ragnarök), as foreseen by ancient mythology.

Attributes and Depictions

Heimdall, the God of Vigilance, is depicted with several distinct attributes highlighting his sacred role:

Gjallarhorn. The shrill of the mighty horn has announced the coming of Ragnarök. The horn symbolizes significant dramatic changes in the course of the mythical story or the shift between epochs.

The Rainbow Bridge (Bifröst). Heimdall is associated with the Bifröst because he is the deity that links the divine with the mortal world.
