Aphrodite

“But beauty is about finding the right fit, the most natural fit. To be perfect, you have to feel perfect about yourself – avoid trying to be something you're not. For a goddess, that's especially hard. We can change so easily.”. Rick Riordan, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians.”

The Greek Pantheon's first beauty

The first legend about the apparition of Aphrodite comes from Hesiod, a Greek poet from the end of the 8th/beginning of the 7th century BC. Interestingly, he begins his poem, Theogony, by giving only a definition of how the goddess looked, calling her "Aphrodite with arched eyelashes.” Uranus and Gaia were the two main deities in Greek mythology, and they were the parents of a single child – Cronus. The parents quarreled, and Gaia fashions a sickle out of stone, which Cronus is to use in castrating his father. Cronus emasculated Uranus and then tossed his father’s seeds into the sea. Suddenly, the sea crested, and from the white caps emerged Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.

The Little Secret of True Love

Initially, Aphrodite landed in Kiphera, an island where three seas meet: the Cretan, the Ionian, and the Aegean. Then, the Goddess of love was on her way to Cyprus, and it was there that she had her landings, which is why her name is often Cyprida. And the name Aphrodite, Ἀφροδίτη, comes from the word ἀφρός-"foam."

A love that is always there

In the past, lovers used the Aphrodite statue when they were getting married, and those who were already married used it as a symbol of true love. She was accompanied by God's helpers: Eros, who depersonalized love attraction, and Anteros, who personified passion. As a legacy to Aphrodite, the Goddess of fertility, were given, as Hesiod writes: “Ladies' whispers of love, glances and giggles, as well as tricks, the sweetness and joy of embraces and kisses.” This is why, in ancient culture, a small ritual statue of the Goddess of beauty was placed next to the bed on the first wedding night.

The men carved statues themselves, hoping to attract the Goddess' attention and make their chosen one a blessed Goddess of love.

Correct Care of a Wooden Statue

A handmade wooden statue of oak needs to be cared for properly to ensure the Goddess takes care of it.  That’s why how you can do it:

  1. Keep pets and small children away from this statue, which is intended for domestic use.
  2. Do not allow the wood to come into contact with moisture or dampness.
  3. Clean with a cloth or soft bristle brush.
  4. Wall mounting requires fasteners that will not damage the product's integrity.

It is not easy to obtain the goddess's blessing; it is much more difficult to obtain her heart. If you are a reader of this text, you have been successful, and may the gift of Aphrodite never fade in the hearts of lovers.
