Wendigo
“In all cultures of the world, there are beliefs that by eating human flesh, you gain certain abilities - speed, strength, immortality. “If you eat human flesh continuously for years, you become less human. Less of a human being. You always get hungry.” – Sam and Dean Winchester, “Wendigo.”
Who is the Wendigo?
The Wendigo (Wìndigò, Weendigo) is a folkloric character or monster of the ethnic Algonquian people native to North America from the Ojinjewa branch, including the Ojibwe, Cree, Naskapi and Innu. The main characteristics connected with the Wendigo are cannibalism, winter cold, and a terrible hunger that never fades. Mythologically, the Wendigo is a horrifying monster — the embodiment of avarice and gluttony.
The appearance of Wendigo varies greatly, but the stereotyped image represents a very tall, thin creature with pale skin, covered in signs of the processes of decay and exposing the bones, sometimes having antlers or a skull of the deer. The Wendigo symbolizes greed and self-annihilation; people transformed into the Wendigo are reduced to the level of cannibals, generally associated with the period of severe food deficit in the minds of the contemporaries of the Native American tribes. The Ojibwe culture also has a terrifying idea called ‘Wendigo psychosis,’ which depicts a condition in which a person with full access to food still has the urge to kill and eat people.
Wendigo, who might live at your house
The actual handmade sculpture of Wendigo in the movie is a carved wood statue, and its dimensions are:
● height: 9" / 23 cm;
● width: 3.5" / 9.5 cm;
● depth: 1.57" / 4cm.
This wooden figure is designed for use at home and can be used to hang on the walls or kept on tables. If you want it to be fixed on the wall as decoration, the bracket would have to be screwed at the back.
Let me reiterate that the figurine is made of natural oak wood. To protect it, it has been oiled and coated with beeswax. When you place an order, you accept my services by agreeing to the terms and conditions of this contract.
