Freya
One of the Vanir, coveted by the Pagan Goddess herself. Majesty and beauty, ferocity and rebellion. Who is Freya, and why would you have a wooden statue of her in your house? I'll tell you pieces of Norse mythology and a little bit more!
The true embodiment of magic and what it costs to be enchanted
Freya, the Goddess of beauty from Vanir, was a skilled wielder of Seidra, considered the most dangerous and powerful of all magic. The Aeisr or Midgardians did not easily learn the secrets of the Vanir, and the mystery of this magic is shrouded in darkness. Like the ancient masters of Seidra, she moved from city to city as a sorceress in search of work. The goddess's voice and spirit reached nearly all worlds.
Enchanted by their power, the Aesir sought their favor. The Pagan Goddess, the first of the Aesir, decided to learn the secrets of the Vanir by becoming part of their family and marrying one they considered a Goddess of beauty. Mimir, who was sent as an ambassador to Vanheim, was considered one of the wisest citizens of Asgard, and he warned Freya. He lost his tongue as a punishment. The Aesir, under the command of Odin, nicknamed Freya “Gullveig” ("gold-greed") and tried to kill her. Three times, they wanted to burn her to death, and three times, she rose from her ashes.
As a result, the Aesir and Vanir began to hate and fear each other, and the hostility turned to war. On the side of the Aesir were the strongest Viking warriors, the Valkyries, and tacticians, while the Vanir used more subtle means: primal magic and the power of the elements. So Vanheim was closed, and the only way to get there was to cross Bivröst.
What's life worth?
In Asgard, Freya met the giant Odr, who became her husband before the war between the Aesir and the Vanir. Their first child was a daughter called Hnoss, which means 'treasure' or 'gem,' the goddess of future charms and the image of her mother. Freya's second child was a son named Hersemi, whose name can be translated as 'precious' or 'treasure.' No further description of his powers has survived, but he became the God of Mercy.
In times of war, Odr and Freya hid in the one place Mimir had shown them. Mimir himself lost his head and was transformed into a giant tree that whispered secrets and rumors to Odin from all over the world.
Once the Asses managed to discover their hideout, and then the Goddess of beauty turned into the Goddess of war. In the game “God of War IV” Freya's care for her children is revealed most accurately: “I will inflict on you all the torments, all the violations imaginable... I will carry your cold body from every corner of the realm and feed your soul to the vilest filth in Hel - that is my promise!”.
